Causes: Inefficient air filter; defect in injection system; problem in exhaust or turbo; use of incorrect fuel (Refer to vehicle owners manual).
Consequences: Sediment deposits in piston rings may cause jamming of pistons; carbon on valves and pistons impedes cooling; narrowing of clearances; higher friction in pistons and bearings; higher fuel consumption, poor emissions.
Solutions: If your test results are "moderate" or "poor", change oil and filter. Re-test using MotorCheckup after 100km to
see if the problem remains or has been corrected.
Oil Condition:
Causes: Oil is oxidized or burned from long oil drain intervals; short term overheating; low oil level; wrong oil type;
high level of sulphur in fuel; high wear particles and dust in oil.
Consequences: Increased viscosity may cause clogging, corrosion attack on engine parts( lead, copper, oil pump), high wear on piston rings and cylinders; Lacquer-like substance adheres to filters and engine parts.
Solutions: Service required. Change oil and filter if test trends to “poor”. Perform MotorCheckup after 100km to see if the problem remains or has been corrected.
Water & Antifreeze:
Causes: Water condenses in the engine from running cold or stop-and-go running. Cooling water with coolant leaking into the oil.
Consequences: Fast oxidization and oil viscosity change; increased engine wear; acid formation corrodes non-ferrous metal (copper, lead, tin).
Solutions: Service requiredby specialist to check thermostat, cooling system, and engine seals. Perform MotorCheckup after 100km to see if the problem remains or has been corrected.
Fuel:
Causes: Unburned fuel condenses on the pistons and drains into engine oil due to poorly tuned carburator, over-
loading cold engine, dirty or clogged injector nozzles; faulty ignition timing.
Consequences: Reduced lubrication, increased fuel consumption, thinning of motor oil, danger of overheating, higher wear on pistons, rings, cylinders, bearings, seals, gaskets. Negative effect on performance.
Solutions: Have the fuel system and checked by a specialist and correct the problem. Change oil and filter, then perform MotorCheckup after 100km to see if the problem remains or has been corrected.
